The Importance of Investing in the Next Generation of Leaders

The IndyHub 1828 Leadership Project holds a special place for me, especially since it was one of the first leadership programs I ever participated in as I was starting my career. This program helped me really begin to understand the importance of professional development and networking across sectors. Shoutout to Jordan Rodriguez for nominating me for the program!

At the time, I was just a few years into my career and was still navigating this new chapter. 1828 gave me the opportunity to learn from professionals across industries, build relationships with peers from all walks of life, and better understand the many ways people can contribute to our city.

One of the biggest lessons I took away was that professional development is about more than building skill, it’s about building authentic relationships. Being in a room with people from different backgrounds, industries, and experiences challenged me to think differently about my own role and the impact I could have.

Looking back, I also recognize how valuable it was to have a program intentionally investing in young professionals. Early in your career, access to mentors, peers, and people willing to share their experiences can make a tremendous difference.

Sometimes, one introduction, one conversation, or one person believing in your potential can open a door. I’m grateful for what I learned, the relationships created, and the role this program plays in our city for young professionals.

Programs like 1828 remind us that investing in our young talent is ultimately an investment in Indianapolis. When we create opportunities for young professionals to connect across sectors, learn from one another, and find their voice, we are helping build the next generation of leaders who will shape our city.

I’m proud to have been part of the 1828 community and grateful to carry those lessons forward.
