Nine-month leadership experience connects emerging leaders with the people, places and opportunities shaping Indianapolis
IndyHub has opened applications for the Class XVI of the 1828 Leadership Project, a nine-month leadership development experience designed to help emerging leaders, primarily between the ages of 18–28, build the skills, relationships, and community connections to make an impact in Indianapolis.
The 1828 Leadership Project brings together a diverse cohort of young talent who are interested in better understanding Indianapolis, expanding their networks, and finding meaningful ways to contribute to the city’s future. Through interactive sessions, community experiences, and conversations with established leaders, participants gain an inside look at the people and work driving Indy’s civic ecosystem.
“Indy’s future will ultimately be shaped by the people who choose to invest their energy here, and 1828 gives young change makers an opportunity to see themselves as part of that future,” said Greg Stowers, Chairman of the IndyHub Board of Directors. “I learned as a former 1828 participant myself that this program is about more than developing professional skills. It’s about a deeper connection to Indianapolis and giving the next generation the confidence and opportunity to lead.”
The upcoming cohort will be co-moderated by Brett Kramer, Director of Kicking The Stigma at the Indianapolis Colts and André Zhang Sonera, Deputy Director & Chief of Staff with the Indiana Arts Commission. Together, Brett and André will help guide participants through the nine-month experience, facilitating conversations and creating connections across Indianapolis’ civic, cultural, nonprofit, and business communities.
The program reflects IndyHub’s longstanding belief that people make the city. By introducing young people to Indianapolis beyond their existing professional and social circles, 1828 helps participants discover new perspectives on their community and build relationships with peers who share an interest in making Indy better.
Ultimately, 1828 seeks to create a pipeline of engaged leaders who are ready to take an active role in Indianapolis.
Applications for the next 1828 Leadership Project are being accepted now through Friday, September 4, 2026. Those interested in being part of Class XVI can learn more and apply at indyhub.org/1828.
The 1828 Leadership Project is made possible with the generous support of the Indianapolis Foundation.
