Starting Another New Year and Getting It Right

Beautiful modern pavilion in the woods at the 100 Acres park.

This place is in the IMA’s 100 Acres. You can sit there for free.

Let’s face it. New Year’s Resolutions aren’t always very creative. Sometimes they’re just about the business of being healthier and more engaged in the world around us.

Truthfully, we think that’s pretty great, and best case scenario is actually following through on those resolutions! Here’s a quick jumpstart some of those recurring resolutions.

Stretch Your Legs

Looking to add a little more exercise to your regular routine? Here are a few places you might want to check out:

  1. YMCA at CityWay. YMCAs are awesome in general. This place is sick.
  2. Chase Legacy Center. Smaller and definitely less crowded, still awesome.
  3. Outside! The White River Canal and the 100 Acres at the IMA both offer beautiful and free walking loops. You can go around and around and around.
Feed Your Belly

Who doesn’t love food? Healthy food can be harder to get excited about—for some of us, anyway. But you only get one body, right?

  1. Ezra’s Enlightened Café. Your stomach will thank you for this food.
  2. Natural Born Juicers. Maybe replace a beer or cocktails with one of these.
  3. A Couple of Cooks. Follow along at home with this local, dynamite duo!
Fill Your Brain

Yes, let’s all agree to do more interesting things this year. Sometimes interesting is pricey, but a lot of times it’s not.

  1. Talks and such at the IMA, Indiana Humanities and Spirit & Place.
  2. Community art classes at the Indianapolis Art Center, Herron School of Art and Design, and the Fountain Square Pottery Center.
  3. Upgrade your podcasts to include things such as Our National Conversation About Conversations About Race, Hidden Brain, 99% Invisible, and TED Radio Hour.
Share Your Heart

We’re not going to tell you how to do this, but we promise volunteering with a cause you care about will make you feel warm and useful. And seriously, who doesn’t love to feel those things? If you don’t know where to get started, why don’t you check out our Volunteer Directory highlighting some opportunities around Indy. Mark your calendar for IndyVolved, too!

Vote

Please. For the love of everything good in the world, exercise this privilege and make sure you have deserving representatives in office. Presidential elections matter, and so do the ones in your neighborhood and across our state. Indiana Voters Home
