Executive Director

Use your entrepreneurial and business management skills to advance urban design and civic sustainability.  Direct public discussions about design and cultural character to showcase what is authentic to Indianapolis. Work at the intersections of design and reuse, of business and nonprofit, of philanthropy and corporate responsibility.

At PUP, we salvage local treasures and repurpose them for everyday use. We are perhaps best known as the organization that took the durable roof fabric from the RCA Dome, enough to span 13 acres, and transformed it into hard-wearing, resilient handmade products including wallets and bags sold across the country. Our other urban initiatives – public shade structures, bus stop seating, and more – have helped make Indy a place that peer cities look to for urban innovation.

PUP’s 3 areas of focus:

• REUSE – We develop products and projects that define what it means to be a truly sustainable city.
• DESIGN – We show how design can be affordable, accessible, inclusive, and beautiful. We are citizen designers.
• CITY –  We position Indianapolis as a leader in smart, sustainable, and resilient design. We are the future of urban design thinking.

The PUP board is seeking a passionate leader to oversee and broaden the organization’s urban reuse projects by moving comfortably between the business and nonprofit worlds, engaging and connecting business leaders, customers, foundations, and donors in the mission to distinguish Indianapolis as an urban design champion and preeminent city among sustainable communities. Retail operations and eCommerce experience are vital along with relational sales and/or fundraising experience. This individual must be able to lead and work collaboratively with a small staff and contractors. PUP’s founder remains involved in a creative director capacity to support the design programming of the organization. Three-year goals include increasing product development and sales revenues, mobilizing both the public and the design community to face city connectivity and place-making challenges, growing philanthropic support and creating more business partnerships.
