Conquering the lunch break slump

How many of us actually take advantage of our lunch breaks? All too often, my lunch break has ended before I have even thought about leaving the office! If you are looking to get out of your work space, take advantage of that lunch break, and accomplish an ambitious workout, head to White River State Park for a free half-hour Tabata workout.

What is Tabata?

You will be amazed with what you can accomplish in this thirty minute workout. Tabata is a high-intensity exercise series where you push yourself for twenty seconds followed by a ten second break. Don’t worry, you get a full minute break between eight sets of exercises. All major muscle groups are worked during the short half-hour, and you’ll be feeling it the next day. This opportunity is sponsored by the National Institute for Fitness and Sport and is a free for all ages.

Why Workout at Lunch

Work out during lunch?  Seriously?

It is a valid concern–if you are going to take advantage of a workout during lunch (especially during the sweltering summer months), there comes a concern of coming back to the office a hot and sweaty mess. However, only one in five professionals are actually leaving their office during their lunch break. Getting out of the office is great for increasing productivity, re-energizing yourself, and restoring your creativity. Breaking up your day with a workout can be a smart career move, and Tabata is a solution to the lunch break slump for people working downtown.

If You Go

Prepare to sweat, be challenged, and work hard if you attend. The instructors make sure your thirty minutes is packed with calorie burning activity–and yes, there will probably be burpees! Likewise, the instructors also provide modifications to make sure that everyone is able to participate in the workout. Pack a water bottle and a towel and look for the large group that meets in the White River State Park. Listen for the music, you can’t miss it.
