Debating my chances in the Winter Olympics

Is it just because there seems to be nothing else (new) on that I’m so
drawn into watching sports I’ve never seen live, thought of watching,
or heard of? I know there must be a reason that I spent an afternoon
watching women travel downhill at neck breaking speeds. Based on the
first woman’s performance, I assumed was having a bad run. She seemed
to have little to no control over her speed or course. I was secretly
hoping to watch each contender careen out of control down the hill. Of
course, like any good voyeur, I never laugh until I realize they’re OK,
walking, and talking. After seeing several women attempt the same hill,
I realized, they did have control—even though it looked like they were
just trying to stay vertical. What a strange “sport”!
Hockey
isn’t a super popular sport (especially in Indiana), but I found myself
watching a game yesterday between Russian and the Check Republic. I’ve
never even seen a hockey game in person but here I was watching and
hoping for goals, fights, and somewhat looking forward to the US’s game
that followed this one. I also pronounced that I could suddenly “tell”
that Russians were the superior team by my observations of the game
thus far.
I had heard of the sport, Curling, but to a lesser
degree. I realized after watching some Curling this weekend that it
barely passes as a sport. Some of the athletes were rather buff, but I
imagine they’re hitting the gym or treadmill—unless using a small brush
to dust ice off really burns the calories these days.
I’m only
kidding—I have enjoyed watching these individuals work very hard to
perfect themselves at these strange Winter sports celebrate their
advancements and medals at the Olympics. But, don’t be surprised if you
see me completing in 4 years. I’m thinking of Bobsled; Mom: dust off my
old sled from 1984, and let’s do this thing!
