Saving All My Love for You

Never before has a song about having an affair with a married man been sang with such fervor then by Whitney Houston in the mid-90s. That is until this morning when I sang it for my husband and dogs fashioning a TV remote as my microphone.

I was at a baby shower on Saturday night when we found out Mrs. Brown had died. As of today, when I’m writing this, they haven’t determined the cause of death. Of course we’re all speculating it was drug related considering she was only 48 and had a very bad history with serious drug addiction and abuse.

Even if she were still in recovery, after abusing one’s body for so many years, a person’s heart and other organs grow weak, and it’s not uncommon for former drug addicts to die while in recovery.
Poor Whitney, who had all been forgotten by the media, her fans, and pretty much everyone, is back in the limelight one more time. I watched some performances of hers on http://www.people.com this morning just to remind myself of what a talent she was in her heyday. Of course, drugs led to a horse sub-par voice in her latter performances, so it’s best to look to the old Whitney for inspiration and fond memories.

She and Bobby Brown (I have also been doing impressions from SNL’s impression of her perfected by Maya Rudolph) http://www.hulu.com/watch/10357/saturday-night-live-geico-insurance had a rocky relationship, filled with domestic abuse, drug-use, and destruction. They divorced in 2007, and I think that as about the last I heard from her!

When I was growing up, I had a karaoke machine with a tape of her music I used to sing. I wasn’t good, but I sure did enjoy trying to sound like her. I used to call her my second mother (probably just hoping if I did that I would inherit her singing genes), but alas, I did not.

Rest in Peace, Whitney, and in one final homage to you, my husband just crooned “I will Always Love You” from the other room. He only sang one line, but that was quite enough.

Love my “Suz in the City”. A nice pick-me-up on those terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days:)
