Get Connected With Reg: From ‘Sky’ to ‘Water’
Published: March 21, 2012 by Reggie Lyons Categories: Professional Development Comments: 42012 has already brought about significant change for me. In January my wife and I welcomed the birth of our son, Hudson. As we enter the spring and wrap up the 1st quarter of the year, even more change is just around the corner for me.
I’m extremely grateful and also thankful for the opportunities that working at Skyline Exhibits has provided. The Reitz family and coworkers at Skyline have been great employers, friends and colleagues. One of the funniest stories was an appointment I had with our owner, Larry Reitz when I first started with Skyline in La Porte, IN. We set up a display... read on -
Be Selfish, Give More.
Published: January 26, 2012 by Giving Sum Categories: Civic Engagement, Networking & Social, Professional Development Comments: 3by Mary Catharine Grau
Remember the Friends episode when Phoebe and Joey get into an argument about whether or not a good deed can be completely selfless? (No? I sum it up in the footnote below.) While theirs was an argument about whether it was possible to do a good deed and not feel good about it, I’ll make it one of semantics, and say that I’m with Phoebe. Selfless is defined as “concerned more with the needs and wishes of others than with one's own; unselfish.” Feeling good about your actions doesn’t mean the act wasn’t done in with someone else’s needs and wishes in mind before... read on

1. Seek volunteer opportunities you can be passionate about. You will be more plugged into... read on

Kallie’s Keys to PDA: Get your brand right
Published: October 20, 2011 by Kallie Bonnell Categories: Networking & Social, Professional Development Comments: 0I believe that those who excel do so because of consistency. Just like a finely-tuned athlete, to do well in “the big game” is to do well in practice. It's that simple.
So, when it comes to professional development, it’s key to consistently manage your brand online, in the event that you find yourself job searching.
It doesn’t take a “social media expert” to update and maintain accurate, helpful content for potential employers to connect with your brand. Taking the time to establish and consistently contribute to your online brand is akin to the difference between consumers choosing... read on

Is Emotional Intelligence the Secret Ingredient?
Published: September 28, 2011 by Melissa Kleinschmidt Categories: Professional Development Comments: 0Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to be a good leader. It may be that I’ve been subconsciously influenced by all the ongoing political debate that peppers the media, or a recent article that discussed the low percentage of women who are CEOs, but I’m always curious as to how those I perceive as successful leaders got to where they are.
Usually, I attribute their success to their intelligence married with charisma. You know who I’m talking about – those really successful people who have the right combination of book and street-smarts with a little right-place-right-time... read on
