  • Did you hear? Indy is celebrating smoke-free air!

Growing up, I was highly aware of the impact that asthma could have on a family.  I can remember nights of running my sister to the emergency room as she struggled to breathe. Watching her nearly turn blue made me realize at a very young age the value of our lungs which we so often take for granted. Fortunately, as she grew older her attacks became less serious but precautions are still taken. Even just a few weeks ago as we celebrated my younger sister’s pre-wedding festivities, it was important to us to find smoke-free establishments in Indy to visit.... read on

  • Spring? If you insist!

Published: March 27, 2012 by Suzanne Flynn Categories: Lifestyle & Wellness Comments: 0

Well, a week ago today, spring officially made its entrance. If you look at our mild winter, you might argue that spring shoved winter aside (move it, you lame season!) with a vengeance long before March 20th.

When I saw people mulching two weeks ago, I thought they were crazy. Well, after this weekend, my husband (and all his 700 or so muscles) will tell you that our mulching is nearly complete as well!

Our next-door neighbors were sweating outside planting flowers last week (hopefully they won’t regret that with the frost advisory last night).

Now many of you know that I am... read on

  • Looking in for Inspiration

    by Brendan Crews

“Without inspiration the best powers of the mind remain dormant.  There is a fuel in us which needs to be ignited by sparks.” Johann Gottfried Von Herder (German philosopher) said that over 200 years ago, yet not a day goes by that someone doesn’t read a book, listen to a song, or watch a film with the intention of finding that spark and becoming inspired.

Let me start by asking you three questions.  First, when was the last time you felt inspired… truly and deeply inspired?  I don’t mean happy or hopeful, energetic or excited.  I mean jump up and take action... read on

  • Facebook—on the way out of favor?

Published: December 19, 2011 by Suzanne Flynn Categories: Lifestyle & Wellness Comments: 2

After a few months of hearing people complain about Facebook, their “friends”, and the fact that apparently, my 15 year reunion was a flop of disinterest, I am really starting to believe what I couldn’t a few years ago.

I noticed this weekend more examples of the disenchantment with Facebook. While out for a friend’s birthday, it was referred to as “Faceplace” and I heard teasing about status updates of fellow users.

Probably about 6+ years ago, 18-21 year olds were annoyed/ mortified as the 22-60+ year old population invaded and polluted Facebook. We were all still rocking Myspace... read on

  • The Great Green Hope – ‘Twas the Day After Thanksgiving

Published: December 5, 2011 by Ryan Puckett Categories: Lifestyle & Wellness, Sustainability Comments: 0

Before trick-or-treaters could rummage through their goodies, the big box retailers were already switching out the ghoulish gear for holiday décor. Since the week leading up to Thanksgiving, there’s a new message in my inbox everyday telling me it’s my “last chance” to nab a holiday bargain. And a litany of Black Friday and holiday-themed commercials* have been ruling the airwaves before you could finish the pumpkin pie.

One series of TV ads from Target seem humorous. These spots feature a crazed blond woman (She’s @ChristmasChamp on Twitter) preparing to maximize her Black Friday savings... read on

  • Thanksgiving

Published: November 21, 2011 by Suzanne Flynn Categories: Lifestyle & Wellness Comments: 1

For some reason, I feel like every time I sit down to and put on my “Suz in the City hat” (which is actually a beret), I feel like I’m up against a deadline. And by deadline, I mean a holiday!

Here it is the 21st of November, and Thanksgiving is only a few days away. Now, I don’t want to brag, but I will. I am an expert at Thanksgiving because for the last few years, we have had two Thanksgivings. I know many people ATTEND more than one Thanksgiving meal on Thanksgiving. But we actually celebrate Thanksgiving a week early with relatives to make sure we break bread with everyone important!... read on

  • Get Connected WIth Reg: Get the Best out of the Holidays

Published: November 18, 2011 by Reggie Lyons Categories: Lifestyle & Wellness Comments: 0

If you’re like me, you’re probably amazed that another holiday season is already upon us. Even with the Christmas décor sneaking out in some retail locations well before Halloween the holiday season seems to creep up earlier and earlier every year.

The holidays mean a lot of things. Time away from the office and time spent with family and friends are amongst the many joys of the season. And for many, joining in on the hysteria of Black Friday is another. And let’s not forget enjoying all of our favorite dishes and sweet treats! But in order to make the most of your holidays here are a few... read on
