You Don’t Know Jack Special Edition: Come One, Come All!
Published: August 17, 2011 by Jill Thixton Categories: Arts & Entertainment, Civic Engagement, Culture & Diversity, Fashion & Style, Food & Drink, Lifestyle & Wellness, Networking & Social, Professional Development Comments: 0ArtSparkle: Circus under the Stars is this Saturday, August 20th, 7pm.
I consider myself pretty excitable in the first place but when I first laid eyes on the Indianapolis Art Center’s annual summer gala fundraiser theme I literally screeched with delight. This year’s ArtSparkle leitmotif is Circus Under the Stars! And when I say circus, I’m not talking about a few clowns juggling some balls. I’m talking one night only of real life side-show acts, rare circus posters, food AND drinks outdoors on the grounds of the Indianapolis Arts Center. If you attended the Microbrewers Festival this... read on

You Don’t Know Jack: Massive Avenue
Published: August 1, 2011 by Jill Thixton Categories: Arts & Entertainment, Culture & Diversity, Fashion & Style, Lifestyle & Wellness, Networking & Social Comments: 5You Don’t Know Jack: Massive Avenue
By Jill ThixtonI live downtown in the Old Northside. If you’re into beautiful historic homes and buildings, tree lined streets with bright charming street lamps, neighborhood owned businesses, happy dogs, and foot traffic, you would likely love it as much as I do.
I’m going to warn you, as a downtown dweller and city street lover, you may be offended by my blatantly obvious and biased opinion towards downtown Indianapolis. AND I’m going to out on a limb and say that the north east of corner of downtown Indy is one of the preeminent places to live,... read on

You Don’t Know Jack: Hip to Be Square – And to Eat Tacos.
Published: July 5, 2011 by Jill Thixton Categories: Arts & Entertainment, Culture & Diversity, Food & Drink Comments: 1Urban Dictionary defines a ‘square’ as the following:
1. (n; adj) A person who is regarded as dull, rigidly conventional, and out of touch with current trends.
My guess is that the founders of Fountain Square had something else in mind when naming this sweet little area just south of downtown Indy - and if you ask me, the 1986 Huey Lewis hit could be the new tagline of this cultural district.
Fountain Square is simply beginning to overflow with the most surprising and culturally diverse options in Indy for art, vintage shopping, music and food.
Now, you know I can’t name everything... read on

You Don’t Know Jack: Wholesale District Review. Jack and Jill Style.
Published: May 16, 2011 by Jill Thixton Categories: Arts & Entertainment, Culture & Diversity, Food & Drink, Networking & Social Comments: 0As you may or may not know Indyhub.org is letting me back on my soapbox and given me two thumbs up to provide my very own reviews hotspots within Indy’s Cultural Districts. Little do they know, I have never actually written a review. Have you? It’s not easy. I tried for all of 75 seconds to make this very in-depth and insightful and decided I had my own ideas on what a good review entails.
So, here goes something.
For those of you who don’t know what the Wholesale District is, it’s basically anything that goes on south of Market Street and north of South Street between Pennsylvania... read on

You Don’t Know Jack: Butler Wins!
Published: April 4, 2011 by Jill Thixton Categories: Arts & Entertainment, Culture & Diversity, Fashion & Style, Food & Drink, Lifestyle & Wellness Comments: 1BUTLER WINS!
How do I know that already? I don’t. I just seriously doubt that anyone on earth will read this blog on April 5th, because let’s face it… nobody cares what Jack and I have to say the day after the National Championship Game when our very own Butler Bulldogs are playing. I was simply trying to get a click through.
Did it work?
Let’s keep going then. My goal today is to keep this short and to the point. We’ll see how that goes.
Jack and I would like to take an opportunity to share with you our exciting new approach to our blog. As it turns out, blogging without a specific... read on

You Don’t Know Jack: What’s the Worst That Could Happen?
Published: January 3, 2011 by Jill Thixton Categories: Arts & Entertainment, Lifestyle & Wellness, Networking & Social, Professional Development Comments: 8On the first day of the New Year, I was excited to attend the closing night of the Broadway hit, Wicked. I had a brand new super cute holiday markdown dress on, a hot date, French-manicured Broadway nails pressed on tight and a new weave in tow! We were headed out for a fabulous evening of dinner and theatre – to be said out loud with a British accent, should you be reading this to your mum.
Besides the whole issue with no restaurants being open because it was a holiday causing our dinner to end up consisting of two hot pretzels and bottomless sodas for $15, we were still having a... read on

You Don’t Know Jack: ISO Roommate
Published: July 15, 2010 by Jill Thixton Categories: Lifestyle & Wellness, Networking & Social Comments: 0Four months into my 30s, I received a phone call from my step-dad. Apparently, we have a family friend I’ve never known about.
And apparently, said friend comes from a really nice family and just needs a furnished room for the summer. Said friend is interning in Indianapolis and said friend is a really nice guy and comes from a really nice family. Yeah, I said it twice.
I’ve lived alone for years and have got to say, it has some amazing benefits. If someone killed all of your Pepto Bismol and suddenly you’re dying of indigestion from a days worth of cookouts and brew and the whole... read on -
You Don’t Know Jack: I dumped myself on Valentine’s Day
Published: February 18, 2010 by Jill Thixton Categories: Networking & Social Comments: 0The guy next to me is reading playboy on US Airways flight 3032 from Washington DC to Indianapolis. The driver of a pretty nice shiny black town car doused himself in what I imagine Sex Panther smells like prior to driving me to the airport. I dumped myself on Valentine's Day.
I'm not quite sure what irony really means, so I'll look it up.Synonyms:
- Satire
- Paradox
- Sarcasm
- Mockery
- Insincerity
Interesting, I had no idea what irony really meant until just now. I think I thought it meant something more like a coincidence.
Well then, I guess it's not ironic that... read on
