Growing up, I was highly aware of the impact that asthma could have on a family.  I can remember nights of running my sister to the emergency room as she struggled to breathe. Watching her nearly turn blue made me realize at a very young age the value of our lungs which we so often take for granted. Fortunately, as she grew older her attacks became less serious but precautions are still taken. Even just a few weeks ago as we celebrated my younger sister’s pre-wedding festivities, it was important to us to find smoke-free establishments in Indy to visit.... read on

  • Be election ready!

A note to Hubbers from Beth White, Marion County Clerk

Election Day is just a few short weeks away, and I want to make sure you are election ready. The most important message you can help us spread is know where you go to vote. There are significant changes to polling locations this election because Mayor Ballard redrew the county’s precinct lines in late 2011 and picked new voting sites. We estimate one in three Marion County voters will have a new place to vote on Election Day.

Many voters will be caught unaware about these changes until they go to vote on Tuesday, May 8, and I don’t... read on

  • Austin or Bust: SXSW Bound

    Guest post by Denver Hutt

March is the almost perfect month. There’s a holiday for nearly everyone: for the math inclined there’s Pi Day (3/14), the sports enthusiast: March Madness (3/13-4/2) the literary scholar: The Ides of March (3/15), the historian: St. Patrick’s Day (3/17). For the tech, music and film scene, there’s South By Southwest (3/9-3/18).

This year marks my first time celebrating SXSW, and quite frankly, I couldn’t be more excited.

Drawing nearly 50,000 people to Austin, SXSW started in 1987 as a music festival showcasing country, folk, jazz, blues, rock and everything... read on

  • The Heart of Fall: Heartland Film Festival Hits Indy

Published: October 6, 2011 by indyhub Categories: Arts & Entertainment Comments: 1

For a moment, we’d like to step back 19 years in Indianapolis’ not-so-distant history. It was 1992 and a group of visionaries launched a film festival in Indianapolis featuring independent films that celebrated life. Today that once-small celebration has exploded into one of the fastest growing film festivals in the country, and it's still at home right here in Indy.

From Oct. 13-22, the Heartland Film Festival will take over Indy theatres with award-winning and groundbreaking documentaries, comedies and every genre in between. To get a head start, attend "Watch Carefully!" at Clowes... read on

  • A letter of thanks

A letter from IndyHub Executive Director, Molly Chavers

You might have heard the story of IndyHub’s beginnings, “started by BioCrossroads and the City of Indianapolis… to help attract and retain talent to Central Indiana…” By now I should be able to press a button on my forehead to recite this spiel.  No doubt I can say it in my sleep.  But the truth is, just like any other elevator speech, it only tells a miniscule part of the story.

IndyHub was, indeed, started by BioCrossroads and the need of the life science industry to get young talent attracted, connected and engaged. And fast.
