Orindytation: Lesson 8 - Beating the winter blues
Published: January 18, 2012 by David Feinberg Categories: Food & Drink Comments: 0Now that we are into January we are beginning to get into the full excitement of the Super Bowl. In a few weeks that excitement will have come and gone and I will be dreaming of warmer days in the summer. There are a few things that I really love to have on the cold days of winter to help make me feel like it’s the summer. The first is Natural Born Juicers. Their fresh juice helps provides some of the vegetables that I know my diet is missing in the winter. Then there is Lick Ice Cream with some of the most unique flavor options in the city.

Orindytation: Lesson 7 - What I have learned this year
Published: December 8, 2011 by David Feinberg Categories: Civic Engagement, Networking & Social Comments: 1A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of having lunch with a fellow Hubber at my favorite lunch location: Indianapolis City Market (Vietnamese Noodle Wrap from Circle City Soups and a drink from Natural Born Juicers? Delicious!). Over lunch we had a fascinating conversation.
The first topic was a reflection on the blogs I have written so far this year. I commented that I thought they all seemed pretty darn pretentious. Almost like they take on a high and mighty tone that I know Indianapolis better than you, so you should listen to me. My friend laughed. She said the whole point of the blog... read on

Orindytation: Lesson 6
Published: November 3, 2011 by David Feinberg Categories: Arts & Entertainment Comments: 0When I chose to move to Indianapolis, I remember the disappointed reaction from my aunt. It wasn’t that she was hoping I would move to California to be close to her; she thought I had chosen a city that had a huge void when it came to the arts. I have taken great joy over the past 13 years telling her about the experiences I have had here (and even having her come to town to join me on a few).
Does Mass Ave = Broadway? Nope, nothing does. That's why I like to vacation in New York. But there are enough productions, shows, and competitions going on in Indianapolis that I invariably miss... read on

Orindytation: Lesson 5
Published: August 24, 2011 by David Feinberg Categories: Arts & Entertainment, Culture & Diversity, Food & Drink, Lifestyle & Wellness, Sustainability Comments: 0This past weekend I was visited by my brother, sister-in-law, 8-year-old nephew and 11-year-old niece. This was the third visit in the past two years, so we passed on some of our typical activities, like going to The Children’s Museum. As I reflected on the weekend I realized our exploits would be the perfect thing to share. All of our activities were geared towards the kids, but would be just as enjoyable for a group of twenty-somethings to forty-somethings who have come to visit.
Our first stop was Jockamo’s in Irvington for lunch. The easiest way to describe Jockamo is to say they have... read on

Orindytation: Lesson 4
Published: July 25, 2011 by David Feinberg Categories: Civic Engagement, Food & Drink, Sustainability Comments: 0Last month, I said my next entry would be about food. There are so many places I to be excited about: Maria’s Pizza and their sauerkraut pizza, the hip new Black Market, Goose the Market and their salmon pastrami, my absolute favorite R Bistro, our Food Trucks…the list goes on and on and on, but then something happened.
One of the ways I pass my time is by volunteering on the audit committee for Second Helpings. When they were looking to expand their accounting department, I volunteered to help conduct interviews. At the end of each interview, we asked the candidate if they knew... read on

Orindytation: Lesson 3
Published: June 24, 2011 by David Feinberg Categories: Arts & Entertainment Comments: 1(Get a refresher on Lesson 1 & 2)
As I was deciding what part of the city to highlight, I entered into an intense internal debate: Should I highlight some of my favorite local restaurants or throw you off with choosing Indy Parks? I tend to think the statement made by Jess and Marie in When Harry Met Sally - “Restaurants are to people in the ‘80s what theatre was to people in the ‘60s” - is still true today. And so much of my love of Indy stems from the fabulous local restaurants; that are just going to have to wait for another post. Summer has just begun and there is no better time to... read on

OrIndytation: Lesson 2
Published: May 27, 2011 by David Feinberg Categories: Arts & Entertainment Comments: 0It’s May in Indianapolis, which means the focal point of the month is on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Whether it was dogs taking a lap at The Mutt Strut on May 1st, Mini-Marathoners taking a lap a week later, or all the excitement of cars zooming around for the past 3 weeks, the focus is on the track. No red herring here, this is a blog about the track, but why would someone need an introduction to it? Clearly everyone in the city knows about the Indy 500.
It isn’t the race (or the golf course) that I want to highlight for this months Orindytation, but the Hall of Fame Museum. ... read on

Orindytation - Lesson 1
Published: April 21, 2011 by David Feinberg Categories: Arts & Entertainment Comments: 0In two weeks, it will be the 12th anniversary of the day I decided that I was going to leave the city of Indianapolis. Though I loved my job, I just didn’t feel connected to the city. I had not discovered anything about Indianapolis that excited me. I had lived here for over a year, but I was a stranger to the city. I didn’t know where to start, I didn’t know what groups to join (there was no Indy Hub!) to meet people and I had no idea what the city had to offer. I hadn’t been to the IMA, I had no idea what the Monon Trail was, and my idea of fine dining was a night at Maggianos.
