For most folks this means sweaters and soup, but for the Indianapolis music scene, this means something much bigger... Broad Ripple Music Fest! Imagine 150+ bands, DJ’s and hip hop artists performing on 13 stages throughout Broad Ripple over the course of 2 nights. Sound pretty fun? I thought so.
This massive event mimics the SXSW-style showcase format pairing local bands with local promoters of every genre imaginable taking place in local clubs throughout Broad Ripple and beyond.

Once upon a time Indy natives and scenesters were quick to gripe about the lack of appropriate venues, community activities and cultural support for local musicians. Yet over the past, say, 3 years these whimperings have grown hush. It’s not likely there is a single reason for this change in attitude, but rather many individuals, bands, collectives and venues that all put their hands in the circle and shouted “GO TEAM!”. Live and Local: Record Store Day 2011

By the time this decade long game of telephone made its way to Indianapolis, the point was clearly moot. Okay, so maybe ticket and album sales have shrunk since the industry peak in 1999 when Fred Durst and Britney ruled the roost but there has clearly been recent growth in perhaps the most important metric: Community.
