Indianapolis’ & New Orleans’ young professional communities place wager on Super Bowl XLIV
2/4/2010
INDIANAPOLIS --
IndyHub, an organization for young professionals in Indianapolis, and Young Leadership Council (YLC) of New Orleans have placed a friendly, and artistic, wager on Sunday’s meeting between the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints. With a slight twist on the traditional mayoral bet, the victorious city will be the one packing up goods to be mailed.
The groundwork for the wager was laid with a friendly e-mail exchange concerning the teams’ quarterbacks, who ironically each have a strong connection to their rival’s state. Indianapolis Colts’ Peyton Manning spent his childhood cheering for his father, Archie Manning, longtime quarterback of the New Orleans Saints; and New Orleans Saints’ Drew Brees played college football for Purdue University.
Following the exchange, the terms of the wager were settled upon. If the Saints should defeat the Colts on Sunday, YLC will send to Indianapolis a Saints-themed streetcar replica, part of a recent project called “A Streetcar Named Inspire.” IndyHub has partnered with the Indianapolis Art Center for this wager, where the streetcar replica would be placed on prominent display. Should the Colts defeat the Saints on Sunday, IndyHub will commission its young professional members to create an original work of art bearing their city pride. The piece of art would be created at the Indianapolis Art Center, and then sent to New Orleans to be prominently displayed at a popular hot spot for young professionals – a restaurant called Superior Grill on historic St. Charles Avenue.
“YLC is ready to leave its mark far away in Indianapolis WHEN the Saints win the Super Bowl," said Dan Forman, president of the Young Leadership Council. "We're so excited to make this friendly wager with our counterparts in Indy. Both groups have tremendous pride in our respective cities and in the power of young professionals in those cities, so this will be fun!"
“IndyHub is excited for this wager with our friends from the south,” challenged Molly Chavers, executive director of IndyHub. “As Dan said, we’re thrilled to see young professionals in both cities take such pride. Truthfully, we would love to see New Orleans’ ‘A Streetcar Named Inspire’ project so we’re looking into hand-delivering the priceless work of art our members will create following Sunday’s game.”
