Q: I am trying to loose weight. I am about 70 pounds over weight and I have been working out for an hour 5 times a week for a few weeks now. My question is on the days I do 30 minutes of cardio and 30 min of strength training which should I do first to burn the most calories by the end of my hour?

Tod the Trainer: I commend you for going after the 70 pounds of weight in 2010!

Your doing great on the 5 days of Cardio and 5 Days of strength training! You want to do cardio first followed by the strength training. The reason is that lifting weights followed by a rest (which is an interval workout) and will burn calories up to 24 hours later compared to doing cardio last in your workout.

On the cardio, mix it up with some intervals to really set you up for the strength training! Set your treadmill at a 2% incline and maintain your easy walk or run for a 5 minute warm-up, then 30 seconds of running followed by 60 seconds of active walking. Do this every mile or for 20 minutes followed by 2-3 minute cool down.

Have a Fit Day and 2010!
